Recap:
Our plan for the race was just to stay near the front and be a part of any moves or help pull anything back so that it would come down to a sprint. Attacks were going throughout the race with Keegan and me taking turns sending or covering, but the whole peloton was very reactive to them and the ones that did get a gap were quickly pulled back. One mistake I made here was getting a bit too eager to chase, as there were a few moves that didn’t have any representation from the bigger teams like Dolce Vita (7 riders) that I should’ve forced them to chase.
I managed to get in one of the moves on a prime lap and ended up on the front with a couple of hundred meters to go, so I put in a dig to win that and was rewarded with a $65 discount code to Voler. However, the move I was in fell apart shortly after. I also tried to lead Keegan out into the final corner for another one of the primes later in the race, but he just barely got passed at the line.
It was pretty clear that it was going to come down to a sprint, so as the race was coming to an end, I wanted to make sure I was in good position for it. The last lap was quite fast but not single file, and with everybody wanting to be in the top 5 or so wheels there was a lot of jockeying for position so I got pushed back a bit. I ended up around 10th wheel coming out of the final turn but the inside slowed and Keegan came around the outside so I hopped on his wheel for an impromptu leadout. In hindsight we definitely should’ve gotten together earlier to get one of us in better position rather than both of us being in okay position. I had a long seated sprint to the line, coming around a few riders who were fading resulting in me finishing 8th and Keegan 10th.
