Hannon Ayer
Hannon has been racing cross since 2022, but has been riding the wrong bike for much much longer. Growing up mountain biking in the East Bay hills, he is very used to classic loose over hard that we get around here, but enjoys playing in the mud when it's available. He is racing with the A's this year and learning a lot about how to try to stick with the fast boys. Apart from cycling, Hannon has a history with running cross country and track which help when the CX course decides bikes aren't going to work anymore.

Elena De La Paz
This is Elena’s first year racing cross, although arguably Andrew Yee’s hot laps are more difficult than any BASP race. She grew up playing soccer and running track, and after several sedentary years is trying to recover her vO2max. She is a firm believer that if she can do cross, anyone can. When not biking she enjoys trail running, cooking (mostly pasta) and indoor climbing.

Simon Edwards-Parton
Simon started racing cyclocross in London, getting used to racing in the cold and rain. Since moving to California, he's traded slipping around in the mud for sliding around on dirt and has become a regular at BASP. You may not know Simon, but you've almost certainly heard him. When not racing CX or tackling some quirky gravel event, you'll find him on a ride that involves cake, or deep in research on his next bike upgrade.

Orthja Efinger
Orthja started riding MTB when she moved to Michigan during covid and there was nothing else to do. Once she moved to San Diego and was exposed to the triathlon/endurance community there, she debuted in gravel racing and sprint tri and eventually started crits/road racing with AV in 2025 after moving to the bay. Jack of all trades, master of none :-) She is super stoked to be part of the inaugural AVCX team!

Bryan Hains
Bryan always loved riding bikes as a kid, but found collegiate road racing in 2003 at Yale and something clicked. He moved to the SF Bay area in 2008 and joined Alto Velo. After a few years of gravel and MTB racing and lots of bike adventures (and misadventures) he discovered cyclocross. He is super excited to have support from the AV leadership to form the inaugural 2026 AVCX race team. Off the bike he loves rock climbing, mountaineering, and spending time with his family.

Jonathan Lewis
Jonathan has been using bikes for fun and transportation since he was about six, but it took turning 40 to convince him to try actual racing for the first time. He is delighted that his daughter doesn’t seem to mind being dragged to 9am C35+ start times on Sundays. He enjoys exploring the limits of how far he can go, what he can see, and what he can do from his front door on two wheels.
-
Sharon Newman
Sharon started racing bikes while in grad school and joined AV in 2022 for road. Now she's returned to her true love: mud and dirt! She loves long gravel rides with plenty of mud and will always say yes to a coffee-and-pastry stop. Her favorite local spots are sunsets on Russian Ridge and Planet of the Apes. By day, she works on developing better ways to measure biology for medicine.

Brennan Pang
Brennan grew up playing soccer, riding his bmx bike, and skateboarding around town. He later started road riding and mountain biking when he won a bike in a raffle. During the pandemic he started riding everywhere and wrenching on bikes all the time. In 2021 he signed up for a Surf City cyclocross race and loved it so much he returned the next day to race again. Now he looks forward to the mud and the mire every winter. When not racing cross he enjoys riding gravel, mountain biking, backpacking, snowboarding, mountaineering, bouldering, and all things outdoors.

Jorge Pont
Jorge has been racing road and cross for over a decade. He is a veteran of many BASP seasons, going back to the McLaren Park and Golden Gate Park days. He thinks riding cross is a great way to develop both bike handling skills and anaerobic fitness. Jorge is originally from Spain, where he rides around Girona. When not cycling or working, he is likely spending time with his family or playing ice hockey.

David Remahl
David has always biked and ridden on trails with road bikes, but mostly for utility and fun rather than competition. Although he hails from Europe, Cyclocross is merely a niche sport in Sweden. However, after recovering from an MTB accident, he decided to try CX and found it an ideal combination of joy, adventure, and manageable risk of injury.

Andrew Yee
Andrew started road and track racing as a little kid in Pennsylvania, but his most formative rides were thanks to a fishing pole. He'd ride a drop-bar three-speed down dirt roads to the lake; that was the easy part. Returning home with gear, occasionally a fish, and just three speeds meant pushing his bike up hills and through mud, past the cows and their bells. Somehow it still took him until freshman year of college to try cyclocross, where underbiking and lugging his bike gave him flashbacks. He was foul-hooked. Three decades later, he still gladly pays for the misery and cowbells of 'cross.
