Alto Velo C Ride March 14, 2026 - Strade Bianche
Hi All,
In honor of last weekend’s race, I have pulled together a route with some gravel sections, a few narrow gates / gaps to navigate and a chance to enjoy the spring like weather and view the flowers. Given enough time we could add on a 2 mile look with the most Poppy’s you have every seen in 1 place.
Saturday’s loop is bang on 45 miles. We will head out to LAH, and tackle our first bottleneck at mile 7.2. We will have to navigate around a chain link gate but the reward is new roads that are only seen maybe 1x on an Egan ride. Don’t worry - we are heading down the road; not up an Egan segment. We will then link back up with Moody and head up to Chaparral Way. This is a true gravel climb. Nothing technical as I have done it on my road bike many times and am not even thinking about bringing my gravel bike. We will then head down Altamont and turn right on Moody. We will then head up to our next gravel / dirt climb - Dirt Moody. Another well packed dirt climb easily done on your road bike. This climb will crest at Page Mill where we turn left and do the Foothill Park climb.
Down Page Mill, left on Arastedero and a left on a less traveled road just before Zott’s. This comes back out on Alpine where we will stay on the bike trail for about 100 yards and turn left up Los Trancos. We will NOT be climbing Los Trancos. We will take a single lane path from Los Trancos to Valley Oak. A left off Valley Oak back onto Alpine and down Willowbrook. We will turn right and then left onto Georgia Lane and up another dirt path where we will pass by the backyard of Ed’s childhood home. We skirt through PV and another gate on Possum Road. The final gravel section will be off Family Farm Road. It is once again a single lane trail but the reward is heading into a few roads you likely have never ridden before. The final sections of the ride are straight forward with Huddard and back to the start. After Huddard if we are so inclined I am glad to ride us through Woodside Glens to Native Plan Preserve. This park has the best California Poppies.
This is very much an adventure ride with a lot of twists and turns. I wanted to take us on an adventure and a change to see nature before the spring is gone. With this warm weather and lack of rain, it will go fast. There are definitely ways to avoid the gravel if you wish. Ping me and I will help. I hope you find this route entertaining and a break from the normal roads.
