Course: 40 minutes of a 0.90-mile 6-corner lap with a short but punchy 11% climb followed by a sweeping descent to the finish.

The race had a combined field of 61 riders, including the 35+ 3/4, and Collegiate 3. The start was fast, and I didn’t feel great early on, sitting mid-pack for a few laps. After warming up, I started to move toward the front. We didn’t expect a lot of teamwork, but we knew the Cal Poly riders were strong and they might try to establish a break. After about 30 minutes, a few attacks were launched but closed down. As expected, with seven laps to go, the Collegiates made a big move. I chased one attack, and with three laps left, I was still at the front pacing well. On the final climb, I led early, but I didn’t have enough left, and I ended up finishing ninth.

Unfortunately, Jack crashed and didn’t finish—wishing him a speedy recovery—and Kevin dropped his chain, so he also didn’t have luck this time. Overall, we worked hard, but we just didn’t have that final push for the last couple laps.
