Recap: (written by George) After crashing the day before at Dash for Cash and getting some pretty bad road rash, I was a bit nervous going into this race. That said, I still had good legs and was confident in my ability to do well in the field despite my nerves. Our plan was pretty simple: have Leo cover moves while I sat back and waited for the field sprint.
We executed the plan well for most of the race. Leo was in basically every move he had to be in even though it was practically just him vs 5 Big Orange riders. I covered a couple moves to let Leo recover, but for the most part I was sitting in the whole race.
Near the end of the race I focused on putting myself in good position for the sprint and got my way up into 4th wheel going through 1 lap to go. However, there was no team control and I got swarmed. Because of the crash the day before, I wasn’t willing to fight for position as hard as I needed to, so I probably dropped back to 15th-20th wheel going into the final sprint. My legs were good enough to salvage an 8th place result from that awful position, but I still wasn’t able to pick up any upgrade points.
This race was a bit disappointing for me as I felt like I had the physical tools to get on the podium but just didn’t execute. However I think I need to be a bit easier on myself considering the circumstances; it’s not easy to race coming off both a crash and a 6hr car ride the day before. Leo also had a great ride in support so shoutout to him.
