Race Report: 2026 Berkeley Hills RR - Men’s Pro/1/2
Race: 2026 Berkeley Hills RR - Men’s Pro/1/2
Date: April 18, 2026
AVRT racers: Leo Minami and Jon Wells
Top Result: Leo Minami and Jon Wells, tied for DNP
Course: 19 mile rolling loop starting from Orinda BART station and heading out on 3 bears loop. Some bad pavement that they tried hard to mark but it definitely claimed some flats in a large field. 3 climbs at the end, all under 5 minutes or so, are the defining feature with some gradual climbs spread throughout.

Nutrition: More carbs than I could count in my bottles (spoiler alert: didn’t need any of them)
Race Recap:
Pre race plan was to follow breakaways with both Terun and Cyclesport since they were the two biggest teams (sound familiar? We love super teams). Also wanted to hang in the pack until moves with the big dawgs went since the strat list was an absolute murders row, whos who of norcal roadie scene.
Despite lots of race day enthusiasm, as we made it around after an uneventful lap 1, when we got into the hill I dropped my chain and had to get off to put it back on. I chased as hard as I could for the next 20 minutes, but I never saw the group again.
Just as I was starting the scheme my long solo ride while I waited for Leo to finish since we carpooled, I saw him on the side of the road with a flat tire. Bad day out for AV in the 1-2 race, but at least misery had company and we got to our post race burritos faster than everyone else in the race.
