The Joy Ride version of The REZ loop 10/10/26
The Joy Ride is a no-drop ride with a slower pace than the C Ride. It’s more in line with the old Peet’s ride tempo, but faster than the LHR ride.
Pace: Ideal for someone who can climb OLH in 30-35 minutes, easily maintain 15 mph on flat sections and skilled at ridding in a peloton, for a B or C rider looking for a recovery ride or a launching pad to get one’s fitness to the C level. The ride leader will be emphasizing riding skills, bike safety and courtesy.
Go to The Alto Velo web sight for more Joy Ride details…

This is a pretty straight forward route with only a couple of real climbs. (Stevens Creek Reservoir & Pierce to the winery)
After the right turn from Foothill on to St Joseph Ave. - Slow Role
Stevens Creek Canyon & Mt Eden rd. - Canyon Picnic area (water & bathrooms)
The end of Stevens Creek Canyon - quick regroup
The top of Pierce Rd. - Mt Winery
McClellan Rd - McClellan Ranch Preserve (water & bathrooms)
Finnish @ Coupa Cafe - Meyer Green, Stanford.
NEW riders are welcome and please introduce yourself.
Skill - “Mind The Gap”. Lets focus on preventing gaps & closing them up if when/they should occur. Use the downhill sections to catch up in order to bring the group together.
It is difficult to stay in a cohesive peloton ones gaps start to develop. Gaps naturally get bigger not smaller as a ride progresses.
Safety - Call out obstruction, Walkers & cars. Also if the group gets split by a traffic light!
Courtesy - Please pull off the road & out of the bike lane when stopped for regroups.
The Joy Ride is subject to Alto Velo's Ride Rules and all participants must sign an annual waiver.
If you’re a new rider or haven’t done a group ride before, there are many critical things that one needs to know about biking in general & about group biking in particular, some of them not so obvious. It's a good idea to learn these not-the-hard-way 😉.
Check out this blog post “How to avoid being that rider”: https://trainright.com/14-group-ride-etiquette-tips-avoid-guy-girl/
To improve your group riding skills, consider joining a skills clinic. Lorri Lown's road biking clinics have worked for many: https://savvybike.com/clinics-and-camps-new/
A simple bike fit might also make a huge difference to your comfort & safety on the bike. For instance, many riders don't feel comfortable riding “in the drops” of the handlebars. However, riding in the drops offers, by far, the most overall control & braking ease. Alto Velo sponsor Agile Physical Therapy offers bike fit assessments.
