A Ride 2023-10-29 - JJ's birthday bash + LKHC Mt Tam

Yeehaw! Bring your A-game for this ride, because it’s going to be a wild one. This Sunday’s A Ride will take us to the far-off land of San Francisco and beyond to celebrate John’s (JJ’s) birthday.

We will begin at the Presidio, make a quick stop at Arsicault (8 am arrival) for a croissant then head up towards Mill Valley. Depending on the crew we’ll either ride the roasters route before or after this week’s Low-Key Hillclimbs segment. We’ll then finish off the remainder of the route and head back to the city. The pace going out will be endurance (“Bernardo’s pace”) and I want to make the ride spirited but inclusive. We will regroup if needed, but expect to ride with minimal stops. If you’re unsure about pace or want to join us, please reach out! We’ll regroup after the LKHC effort, too. Expect regular water stops, in Mill Valley on the way out, and a second one on the way back. On the way back I am hoping to stop for pizza and beers at the Junction, since they tend to have a lot of space for outdoor seating and good beers. I expect we’ll be back at the start by mid-afternoon. I’m stoked, and I hope ya’ll are stoked to join me to celebrate my birthday and to give a go to this week’s LKHC challenge.

Route: AV A Ride: 2023-10-29

Summary: ~95 miles / 7,500 feet

Start: Arsicault Bakery, SF

Time: Meet 8 a.m., Depart by 8:30 (hopefully), 8:45 at GGB, 9:45 at Java Hut in Mill Valley. For more precise timing please coordinate with JJ or Bernardo.

10/1 Recruiting Ride

The Alto Velo Racing Team is recruiting for the 2024 road racing season! Interested in racing your bike next year? You can find our application form here and join us on one of our recruiting rides to get to know the team. We will have multiple recruiting ride opportunities, so if the below doesn’t sound like your kind of thing then stay tuned for announcements for the 10/14 and 10/15 rides!

The Sunday 10/1 recruiting ride will be the typical fast A ride pace: lots of hammering with limited regroups. If you aren’t a 2023 member, you must sign our club waiver linked here so you can participate. We’ll make a beeline for Half Moon Bay over Kings and 92, then cruise the rolling coastal hills of Higgins and Lobitos. The pace will go up once we hit 84 and I expect a full refresh of the segment leaderboards all the way to the top of WOLH. From there we’ll descend 84 and take Portola back home with an optional, longer stop at Alpine Inn for food, drinks, and arguing over who won the townline sprint.

Ride Leader: Cameron O’Reilly

Pace: Fast with limited regroups. Expect the main group to do around 25 minutes up Kings. Make sure you download the route beforehand. Skip Higgins and/or Lobitos and/or WOLH if you fall off the pace.

Stops: Half Moon Bay, Bike Hut, Alpine Inn for post-ride food/drinks

Route: Strava Sand Hill / Kings / 35 / 92 / Higgins Loop / Lobitos Loop / 84 / WOLH / 84 / Portola / Arastadero
