If you're not a member, maybe you'd like to join AV.

Membership Dues

Yearly membership dues are $85 ($80 if you sign-up before Jan 1st!), which includes a club jersey; access to special club deals on clothing and equipment; race and travel reimbursements; and permission to check out special equipment for time trials and bike cases for travel.

Renewing Membership

You need to renew your membership each year. 2010 membership forms are available on the Join AV page.

Ordering Club Clothing

Several clothing orders are run each year.  Generally, notifications about new orders are sent out on the club mailing list. Order your kit now by downloading the 2010 membership form. Note that contrary to previous years, clothing is ordered directly from the manufacturer, Voler. (The membership form therefore only has 1 page this year.) Instructions for ordering will be provided with your membership confirmation e-mail which will be sent upon receipt of your membership form. For more information, contact the Clothing Czar, Steve Jones (clothing10 at altovelo dot org).

Note: Annual dues include one complimentary club jersey. See the table below for clothing delivery dates for the 2010 season. If you join after the final order deadline, you will receive a clothing credit for the following year – this is because all clothing is made to order and we maintain very little stock. A wide range of additional club clothing is available.

Club Meetings

Alto Velo meetings are the third Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Mountain View Police Auditorium. Club meetings typically feature guest speakers on topics of interest to cyclists, and bike racing tips from top racers in the club. The Auditorium is located at 1000 Villa Street in Mountain View. Directions: From Castro Street in Downtown Mountain View, turn North onto Villa Street. The Police Auditorium is located two blocks down on the right just past the Tied House Brewery. Note: Meeting dates or times must occasionally be changed – check the monthly meeting announcement on the club mailing list before venturing out.

Race Reimbursement

A. Riders not on a separately funded team

1. Eligible races: Eligible races are those officially sanctioned by an organization such as USCF or NORBA and are within the NCNCA region. Track races are eligible based on OMNIUM standings. Training races are not eligible even if they are sanctioned (for example, Early Bird Crits or weeknight Twilight Crits).

2. Uniform: You must wear the team jersey or skin suit in the race. If you're a first-year member and haven't received a team jersey, you can be reimbursed if you wear a generic (plain) jersey (some new members make an effort to borrow a team jersey). If you are a current member, you must wear the current year's jersey, unless the clothing order hasn't arrived, in which case you must wear the previous year's jersey.

3. Amount: The amount of the performance-based reimbursement is $30.00 ($20.00 for track races).

3a. Individual Result: To be eligible for reimbursement as an individual, you must finish as indicated in this table:

Field Size Eligible Places
1 - 5 1st, 2nd
6 - 10 1st - 4th
11 - 15 1st - 6th
16 - 20 1st - 8th
21 - 25 1st - 10th
25+ 1st - 12th

3b. Team Result: All club riders in a race are eligible for reimbursement if they help a club member to get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Please list the names of all team members in the race report.

4. Race Report: After a race, write a race report and post it to the club's Yahoo Groups email list. (All racers must write a race report in order to receive reimbursement, including those providing support to their teammates.)

4a. Race Report Format: Your Race Report should be formatted as follows so your teammates don't have to read your whole report to find out your result:
Message Subject Line: Race Report Diamond Valley RR, M35+
Very Top of Message Body: Diamond Valley RR, M35+
1st of 50
7/27

5. Submit Request: Go to the "Members Only" section of this website and fill out the "Race Reimbursement" request form. (If you are claiming a result as a team member, indicate the rider you supported in the "Notes" field.)

5a. Deadline: Reimbursement requests should be submitted promptly--ideally before the close of the current reimbursement period: Jan 12, 2010 to Feb 15, 2010. (A grace period is allowed for races in the immediately preceeding reimbursement period: Dec 16, 2009 to Jan 11, 2010, but older requests will not be approved.)
Note: these dates will change throughout the season to reflect the current period.

6. Checks: Checks will be awarded at the club meeting following the close of the reimbursement period. Checks not collected by the end of the year become donations to the club.

B. Separately funded teams.

Riders on separately funded road teams receive any and all reimbursements from their team. No other race reimbursement or travel support is provided for road races. Track, cyclocross and mountain bike races covered within Section A will be considered separately from funded team road races.

Travel Support

You may petition for financial support (up to $200.00) to travel from the NCNCA district to out-of-district races. These are defined as significant events across the country and world. This particular budget is limited! You MUST petition prior to the event if you want support. Petitions may be made through the reimbursement coordinator (reimburse10 at altovelo dot org).
